PLANNING PRIMARY RESEARCH

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be planning primary research for my project.

Planning primary research

To understand my target audience better I will be carrying out a survey by using SurveyMonkey. I will be sending people a link to join the survey and ask them to kindly fill the survey. This survey is for my project Ancestral revolution which is going to be a short fashion film. The survey will help me understand my audience better and to know what I should do in order to get the most views.

QUESTIONS
The questions I will be asking are:

  1. How old are you?
  2. Where are you located?
  3. What gender do you identify with?
  4. Are you interested in fashion?
  5. Do you have an interest in short fashion films?
  6. Are you interested in different cultures?
  7. Are you familiar with Turkish culture?
  8. Do you believe that culture can be used in modern fashion?
  9. Would culture combined with fashion be interesting?
  10. How long should the ideal (short) fashion film be?

I believe that these questions will help me with the creating of my project and will help me understand my audience better. By getting to know my audience better, I will be able to carry out a project that interests my audience.

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT (CLASS TASK)

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be making four sketches.

With all these designs I wanted to combine the oriental turkish patterns with the modern fashion and models, this is something I want to create with my short fashion film as well.

CONSIDERING MY WORK IN THE REAL WORLD

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be considering my work in the real world.

What influence could your project have in the real world?

It could make people think differently about my culture or even might introduce some people to the Turkish culture. It will show people that your culture can be an inspiration.

Will your project show a point of view or something that might make people think?

Yes, it will show my culture and how it can be combined with the modern fashion world, people will have an insight into my culture and the patterns from history. It is going to show that no matter how old your culture maybe it can still be used or you can still be inspired by it in modern society or in the future.

How else does your work have influence?

I believe that it has a huge influence on me getting closer to my culture and searching more about Turkish history which makes me bond with history and culture.

Why is it important?

It is important to share your culture with people, it may help them understand other cultures better. Or this project may also help them get closer to their culture and show them not to be afraid to use their culture as inspiration.

ARTIST RESEARCH

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be writing my research about Mimar Sinan.

MIMAR SINAN

Mimar Sinan

Sinan (also known as Koca Sinan, Sinan Abdulmemnan, and ) is the most well-known architect of the pre-modern Islamic world, and probably the most well-documented person. Sinan oversaw the design and construction of at least 476 structures at the Ottoman Empire's peak, 196 of which have lasted till the twenty-first century. Sinan's work evolved over the course of his long career as he created unique proportional methods for space structuring; he is best recognized for designing numerous huge, spatially innovative domed mosque complexes.

Suleymaniye Camii

The reason why I have chosen to research this artist is that my project theme is an oriental surprise and it is mainly focused on the ottoman (Turkish) oriental designs. This artist was an architect during the ottoman empire and has added his own designs in each of his buildings as in the image shown above. I also really like how he has built the building all so unique and then added unique designs on the insides as well.

ARTIST RESEARCH

TIM WALKER

Tim Walker

Tim Walker is a fashion photographer from the United Kingdom. The artist makes surreal photos by constructing complex settings and dressing groups of models. “I started using the camera as a way of capturing a mood I wanted to express,” he has said. “To me, a photograph is far stronger when something is suggested rather than defined. If you define it there is nowhere for your imagination to go.”

I will be looking at the work of this artist as it may help me with the process of photographing my project.

INSPIRING PHOTOGRAPHS

Tim Walker

Tim Walker

The reason why I liked this artist is because of how he combines surrealism with fashion and creates an amazing environment to make a photograph. This is exactly what I would like to create with my project so, looking at this artist and his artwork will definitely help me to get inspired.

SMART OBJECTIVE

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be writing my SMART objective.

SMART

This term's fashion project will be based on the theme of Oriental surprise and will use the concept of "Turkish oriental." I will create four posters (2D) using the "Turkish oriental patterns" that I will, later on, use as a background. I will then create one physical piece (3D), this will be a fashion photoshoot/film in which I will be using my 2D outcomes for the background. My target audience will be young adults that are interested in Fashion from the ages of 20 to 30.It's still being discussed whether it'll be a photo shoot or a short fashion film. By the deadline, the completed project will be uploaded to my online portfolio.

I HATE ART

Hi,

Francisco de Goya

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be talking about Francisco de Goya and how his art possibly inspired me.

Francisco de Goya

Goya was a Spanish painter of the late 18th century. His work goes from the Rococo style, cartoons, Romanticism, to the ''black'' paintings with which he decorated his own house. he is also known for small paintings of theatrical subjects.

Saturn Devouring his son

This is one of the most important art pieces of Goya, "Saturn Devouring His Son" is another of Goya's "Black paintings". It tells the Greek myth of Titan Kronus, who ate his son because he believed he would be overthrown by one of them. This work of Goya is just another example of his interest in dark and horrific themes. This painting has also been an inspiration in some weird way, I never thought that such a scary art piece could ever inspire me but it did. Because this painting has shown me that even though your art may be horrifying and scary, it could still be meaningful and presented to the audience as long as you can tell a story and add meaning to it, people will still be interested.

IDEAS - 10 DIFFERENT WAYS

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be posting the 10 sketches I made for my project as a task.

SKETCHES

These sketches/outlines are about how I am planning to design and combine the patterns for the poster background of my photoshoot.

TELL ME A STORY

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be telling a story about my chosen them (oriental surprise) by using texts and images.

Tell me a story

My dad is Turkish which is why as a kid that was born and raised in Belgium, going to Turkey for vacation and sightseeing all the amazing buildings, Mosques, and so on... Has always amazed me.

Blue mosque (Sultanahmet camii)

The blue mosque was the first place ever that amazed me by the oriental patterns and interior, after our visit to the mosque I have been aware of my environment and the patterns being used in almost everything such as rugs, lights, ceramics...

///
Topkapi palace

The patterns and designs are from a long time ago since the ottoman empire. Topkapi Palace is now a large museum in Istanbul in Turkey. In the 15th and 16th centuries, it served as the main residence and administrative headquarters of the Ottoman sultans. That is one of the many reasons why the history of Turkey and the Turkish culture has inspired me with using the oriental theme.

here are many more inspirations:

Turkish mosaic lights

Turkish ceramic teapots

Turkish ceramic tiles

Turkish ceramic bowls

Antique Turkish rug

Because of the wide range of cultural history and oriental interior design, I have a lot of options to be inspired by and to use in my project. I am wishing to combine all the elements and create a great oriental-themed project inspired by the Turkish oriental culture.

THE FANTASTIC FIVE

 Hi,

In this blog, I will be posting five ideas about my chosen theme which is orientalism.

I have immediately chosen this theme because I could easily use the knowledge I have from my Turkish culture in my project and I have lately been really interested in oriental patterns as well.

Idea 1

The first idea that came to my mind is to have an amazing photoshoot in orientalism patterns.

INSPIRATION

Emir Taha

Emir Taha

I got my inspiration from this Turkish singer called Emir Taha, he has been using Turkish orientalism backgrounds for his album covers which have always fascinated me.

Idea 2

My second idea is actually a combination with the first one which is to create orientalism posters which I can later use in the photoshoot.

I will be using patterns that are being used for our famous ceramics and turn them into posters by combining different kinds of patterns.

Idea 3

This idea is also a part of the first idea, something I can use for the photoshoot.

I want to add these oriental lightings to the shoot which will create an amazing touch.

Idea 4

Once again this idea is a part of the first idea.

Adding an antique oriental Turkish rug will complete the whole orientalism look.

Idea 5

As of last I want to finish it by adding a modern touch and create a world where history meets the future. I will be styling myself in modern white clothing for this shoot. The clothing will capture attention because it will be modern unlike the other elements however the colour white will cause the other elements to come through and still be the centre of attention.

MOODBOARD

A little mood board where the ideas are combined to make it easier.

3D HEAD/BUST

 Hi,

in this blog, I will be posting the final result and process of my 3D head/bust and research a 3D head/bust that inspires me.

3D HEAD/BUST

I decided to make a 3D head from cardboard that I had already cut in.

//

I started by cutting out the shape of my head.

//

Then I cut out the forms of my eye (almond).

//

Then I cut out the eyebrows and lips.

//

I also cut out the nose.

//

Then, I added the pupils to the eyes.

//

As of last, I cut out the hair.

//
This is the finished result of my 3D head.

Out of the box: Art created from recycled corrugated boxes

I got inspired by Ivan Sherman's art made of recycled boxes. I also use recycled cardboard that I had used during the previous term. However, I did not have much so I had to keep it small and simple but Ivan Sherman's artwork is amazing and has a lot of details to it which makes it really interesting to look at.

WELCOME TO ART PORTFOLIO TWO

 Hi,

Welcome to Art Portfolio two, it's a new term with a lot of motivation.

Term Two

This term what I want to do different is the posting time on my blog, last term even though I finished my project on time I realised that I was having a hard time blogging everything because I kind of let it all wait till the end. So, this term I want to make sure that I blog sooner about my project so that I do not stress at the end of the term.

Tate Britain

I recently went to the Tate Britain museum in which I have seen amazing art from some great artists, here are some pictures to show you some of the great work. I definitely recommend everyone to go visit this amazing museum because it has a lot of modern art but also paintings from history which is nice to see the both of them and it's also free to visit which is a great deal for students!
